[edit] Summary

Captain Jim Brass gets a call from his estranged daughter, Ellie in LA about her friend, Dakota, going missing. Brass decides to visit LA where he catches up with an old friend, Annie Kramer, from New Jersey, now a captain in the LAPD.

The car Dakota was last seen in is found trashed in an alley way, with bullet holes in the trunk. Warrick turns up at the scene and we discover he's at a conference. He helps out Brass with various task throughout the investigation. Dakota is later found dead in a lake and Doc Robbins helps Brass understand the autopsy report. The car is traced back to a prominent lawyer which leads Kramer to take things easy.

As the investigation progresses suspicion falls on a prominent TV star, Vic "The Eagle" Patterson, currently standing for mayor who is very well connected. Brass & Warrick are forced to continue their investigation outside the normal channels. Warrick and Brass call Nick Stokes on two occasions, once for information on Patterson's gun license, once to run a bullet comparison. The episode concludes with Brass handing over all the evidence to Kramer to follow up, stating most of it is inadmissible.

During the course of the episode we learn a lot about Ellie and her relationship to her father and Brass and his time in New Jersey. Other than Warrick, Doc Robbins, and Nick Stokes, none of the other regulars appear. We also see that Brass is willing to put his career on the line to help Ellie, telling the Las Vegas sheriff as much when calls Brass.
