Holker Street
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Holker Street is a sports stadium located in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England. It has a current capacity of 4007, of which 1000 is seating. However, the stadium's record attendance of 16,874 was set in 1956 for the FA Cup third round match between Barrow A.F.C. and Swansea City.
Barrow A.F.C have used this ground since 1909, but it has also been used as a speedway track during its history. The Barrow Bombers operated from Holker Street from 1972 until 1974. [1]
Holker Street was at the centre of Barrow's financial problems of the late 1990s, due to disputes over its ownership, which now rests with the football club.
The stadium's future is uncertain, as Barrow A.F.C. consider plans to relocate to a new stadium in Barrow's proposed docklands development. Such a ground would be undoubtedly shared with Barrow Raiders, the town's rugby league club.
