Love the Travel Userboxes

Thanks for your work on these! Is there anything I can do about the extra space that appears under each one? --Robb0995 05:36, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

Visited England

England is not a country, it is part of the United Kingdom. - Patricknoddy 3:17pm, January 15, 2007

RE: England is a country

Although England is a constituent country of the United Kingdom, that's basically the equivalent of a U.S. state. - Patricknoddy 5:29pm, January 16, 2007

You are also wrong because England is not a sovereign state. - Patricknoddy 3:40pm, January 17, 2007
England ceased to be a country with the approval of the Acts of Union by both the English and Scottish Parliaments in 1706 and 1707, which effectively dissolved both parliaments and replaced them with a new parliament of Great Britain, based in the buildings of the former English parliament, although devolution has seen day-to-day Scottish parliament returned north o' the border to Holyrood. Since the establishment of the United Kingdom of Great Britain, England has been no more than the largest of the three provinces which make up Great Britain (GB does not include Ulster - that's just the United Kingdom - the full name of which is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland). Trust me, I should know. I have lived in England all my life and have a keen interest in the history of the period when the crowns were united. - Vox Humana 8' 17:43, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
You must be mad to believe anything my country's government says. England is NOT a country.--Vox Humana 8' 19:38, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
I agree with Vox Humana 8'. - PatricknoddyTALK (reply here)|HISTORY 00:44, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
If this is what happened in history than it is correct. - PatricknoddyTALK (reply here)|HISTORY 11:14, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

Baptists

User 63.105.65.5 does not seem to understand Wikipedia conventions. He / she seems intent on a complete re-writing of what is already an excellent page. Thanks for keeping a watchful eye. (Some American Wikipedians have a tendency to write about the Baptists as though the USA was the only country that has them. Also, because of their mistaken view of the origins of the Baptists, they seem unaware of their connections with the English Disenters. This is somthing else to watch out for). All the best. I have retagged this image as {{univ-logo}}. Please see for further explanation. Since rights are held by Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and this image is not used in any main namespace articles, it is now orphaned and subject to deletion if it does not become used in an actual article within seven days time. If you have any questions about this, I'd be happy to answer. --Durin 21:48, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

Baptist Edits

HokieRNB, I just read your message about my edits. Could you explain to me exactly how a "consensus" is achieved? When I signed on with Wikipedia I was warned that anything I wrote could be unmercifully edited. Does that only apply to certain people? Do I have to have someone's permission before making an edit? Userboxes/Faith

Dear HokieRNB I have added a "Faith" page to the Userboxes gallery. A number of faith-based userboxes bear your username, so I thought that I should let you know! As a relative newcomer to Wikipedia I don't know if this means (a) you created these boxes or (b) you created a template from which other Wikipedians have made them. Either way, please feel welcome to visit the new page of the gallery and say on its discussion page what you think. If you know of faith-based userboxes that I have not included, please contribute them to the gallery page!

By the way, I am English and I am saddened by any suggestion that my homeland might not be a country! The English have lived here for well over a thousand years. We are no less a country for having united our parliament with that of Scotland three centuries ago. The teams that represent England by playing cricket, soccer etc. represent a country, not a region or province or something!

Nevertheless, on my userpage I have tried to sidestep the issue by listing "Territories" that I have visited rather than countries. I realise that this courts misunderstanding, because Wikipedia defines "Territory" as a subdivision of a country. However, I have used the term as the pretext for a complete mixture of national and regional flags, simply because I find it more fun and more interesting!

Best wishes, Motacilla 23:58, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

Publication lists

What is the standard (or preferred) format for a list of publications by an author? HokieRNB 16:35, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

You can probably find the answer at Wikipedia:Guide to layout. John Reaves (talk) 17:50, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:KeaggyHymnsongs.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:KeaggyHymnsongs.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Tellyaddict 15:32, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Well you can use templates for rationales or you can just type it out, you must include the following for fair use images:
  • Description
  • Source
  • Portion of copyrighted work used
  • Purpose of image
  • Has the resolution been reduced?
  • Is it replaceable

Hope this helps! Cheers - Tellyaddict 15:46, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
