Talk:Hoklo
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The translation of Hoklo in written Chinese is wrong. It is he2 luo4 (he2 being "river", luo4 being luo4 of luo4 yang2 zi3 gui4), not he4 lao3 or fu2 lao3. While the hoi polloi asign the written name by simple guessing, the writer of this article should be more academic and accurate in this matter. Sorry I don't have Chinese Word Program. Someone or the writer please rectify it. Cheers.

[edit] Etymology
On this page, or on the Holo ethnicity article, we could give an etymology. Fu=Fujian, their province of origin. Lao=person, sometimes, but not always derogatory, often implying "bumpkin, hick". Heluo is probably only a phonetic transcription, whereas Fulao actually has a lexical significance. ~ Dpr 11:54, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)
