Hokuk (Hebrew: חוקוק) is a kibbutz in Israel. Located near the Sea of Galilee and the cities of Tiberias and Safed, it falls under the jurisdiction of Emek HaYarden Regional Council.
[edit] History
The kibbutz was established in 1945 near the Arab village of Yakuk (which had taken its name from the Biblical Jewish city of Hokuk known for growing mustard)[1] and the supposed funeral place of the prophet Habakkuk.
The kibbutz was founded by former Palmach members, graduates of the Mikveh Israel agricultural school, members of the HaNoar HaOved VeHaLomed youth movement, and immigrants from French-speaking countries (France and North Africa) and South America.
[edit] Economy
As well as agriculture, the kibbutz also has a plastics factory, Hokuk Industries.
