[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:ZachariasSmith.jpg

Image:ZachariasSmith.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] Colin

I removed the claim that Colin returned for his 6th year. This was never explicitly stated but it doesn't make sense considering he was muggle born and would surely have been kicked out and probably locked up in Azkaban (either that or he would have become a permanent dark arts practice dummy). I'm sure there's an interview I read recently where JK confirmed Colin snuck back in to take part in the fighting but he was not a student at the time, we can presume he was in hiding as with many other muggle borns. (Remember he was in the DA so would have known about the upcoming battle with the galleons) Nil Einne (talk) 10:33, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] "Minor" sections

I noticed that this article listed characters without any inclusion criteria, as some other characters like Marcus Flint, Roger Davies, Penelope Clearwater, and some others were not included but other minor characters like Susan Bones, Anthony Goldstein or Theodore Nott were listed, (for example, we cannot say that Nott is more important than Flint). I think that we should only list those characters with regular appearances and interventions, and with some plot involvement. Mariette was important because she betrayed the DA, but Terry Boot has no involvement at all, same as Anthony. However, I think that all the information about some of those deleted sections (Susan, Anthony, Terry, Theodore, Millicent) should not be lost, that's why I recovered the previous minor characters and add these to the list. I also created a single section for Crabbe and Goyle as both of their sections had the same information and their involvement is the same. Some other characters with similar involvement have a common section like Fred and George, Frank and Alice or the Carrows. --Lord Opeth (talk) 04:13, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Zacharias Smith

Come on, same last name, same house. I think it's a very correct assumption to make that he is related to Hepzibah Smith Grsz11 (talk) 15:43, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

Well yes he is related to her, but we don't know how. Most Pure blood Wizarding families are related to each other somehow or the other. --Jammy (talk) 16:00, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
Smith is the most common name in the English-speaking world. What makes you think they're related? faithless (speak) 19:06, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
When has there ever been a common name in Harry Potter? There would be no reason for JKR to give multiple characters the same surname, no matter how common it is. I guarantee it's no coincidence, there's just no proof to it. Grsz11 (talk) 19:10, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
Mark Evans. He was a little boy that Dudley's gang beat up, and is in no way related to Lily and Petunia. And Smith is a much more common name that Evans. faithless (speak) 19:25, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
The fact that most Wizarding families are related, and we know for sure that Hepizibah Smith had a family of the younger generation. So it is incredibly likely that Zacharia is related to her. But I think it's best not to mention this possible link in the article until it's confirmed. --Jammy (talk) 19:12, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

I agree; we shouldn't put Smith as being related to Hepzibah Smith because it's unverifiable and original research. Snood199 (talk) 00:46, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Angelina Johnson

Why not move Angelina Johnson into the Weasley family article under the extended family section.--UESPArules (talk) 22:24, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

I agree with that. Grsz11 (talk) 22:37, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
I oppose. She was never part of the extended Weasley family in the books (only in Rowling's interviews and extra stuff). She was always known as a Hogwarts student. She should remain here. --Lord Opeth (talk) 00:17, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
I agree with Lord Opeth, it's best that she's left as a Hogwarts student as quite a lot of Wizards in the book are related to the Weasleys family, I don't think the article needs every person related to them in that article. Jammy (talk) 21:11, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Problems with editing

Everytime I try to edit a Harry Potter article, it just returns to its original form for example whilst editing the Hogwarts students section it originally said that "Seamus Finnigan is a Gryffindor student", there is nothing wrong with this sentence but when I edited to "Seamus Finnigan is an Irish Gryffindor student" which is never truly specified but in the books he does support Ireland and has an Irish name and in the film adaptions, he is played by an Irish actor. When I returned to the article, it was in its original form despite the changes I made. Why? This problem has occured with any other articles I have edited. --86.40.198.246 (talk) 19:37, 28 March 2008 (UTC)Seán Travers, 19:37, 28 March 2008 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.40.198.246 (talk) 19:33, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Thoughts regarding this article

I think that this article has been, since the beginning, a complete mess. As it has the four former "List of minor (Hogwarts house) characters", it is large and quite disorganized. To avoid having an extremely large article (more than 100 KB) lots minor characters (especially Quidditch players and sorting-ceremony only characters) were not included when the merging took place. Some other characters have been listed as "minor", but that criteria is quite doubtful. For example, we cannot say that Hannah Abbott (who has her own section) is more notable than Justin Finch-Fletchley (who is listed has Minor Hufflepuff). Another example could be Montague (listed as Minor Slytherin) and Warrington (who does not appear at all). The list, as it is right now, is disorganized, but a list with individual sections for all students will be annoying. Having separated lists again is also a bad idea, as the lists "of minor (Hogwarts house) characters" have no notability at all.

My suggestion is to list together all Dumbledore's Army members under a Dumbledore's Army article, which would have only 20 characters (the others being the 6 main DA members, the Weasley twins, and Dennis Creevey, who shares section with Colin), and would not have place for additions or removals. The idea is not to get back to the old, crufty DA article we used to had, but this DA article would have only a short introduction about the organization (not a re-tell of facts in in-universe style), and then the list of characters (like the Death Eaters or the OotP articles). This is also because lots of articles have links to "Dumbledore's Army", but it redirects to a plot section of book 5, and the DA was not only a fact from book 5.

Cedric Diggory, Oliver Wood, Cormac McLaggen, Pansy Parkinson, and Crabbe and Goyle can be moved to the Supporting characters article. It would not represent a great deal with Cedric, Pansy, Crabbe and Goyle as they used to have individual pages. Oliver and Cormac are not mentioned in too much articles so we can fix their links. The rest of minor characters like Demelza Robins, Roger Davies, Millicent Bulstrode, Marcus Flint, etc. are mentioned really few times during the series, and most of them are not even mentioned in other HP articles.

Any thoughts? --Lord Opeth (talk) 23:10, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

I'm fine with that, if you're willing to do the work. :) faithless (speak) 01:55, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
