[edit] Why this page should be moved (again)
I think it would be for the best if this page migrated to List of streets in Melbourne, List of major streets in Melbourne or somesuch. My reasons are:
- Wherever an article refers to Melbourne's city centre, it usually links here, but the link is disguised simply as central business district. I'm sure it would be annoying to end up at an article describing one specific CBD when most people would probably expect the general article.
- A CBD is more than just the streets that define it, it is everything between those streets too, This article's contents and its name are completely at odds.
- The definition of the Melbourne CBD as being within the Hoddle Grid is somewhat archaic now. Not only has the CBD long since absorbed the areas along its street boundaries, but also the northern part of Southbank across the River, and eventually the Docklands too.
- The Melbourne City Council has started to use the term CAD - central activities district instead of CBD. It definately is more appropriate, and I can see it being used more and more.
- Finally, there are plenty of other articles (possibly some are already written, but certainly a lot are pending) about major streets outside of the CBD/CAD proper (clear beyond whatever its fuzzy boundaries are).
- (Actually, here's another: the early City of Melbourne was basically the modern CBD/CAD and nothing more - it literally ended right at La Trobe and Spring Streets. That historical element needs some expounding too).
Where is this list to go, and what should takes its place here? The CBD/CAD is a complex beast requiring a complex article.

- Personally, once I started to create the streets here, I started to think it was more useful at its original site, Hoddle Grid. Hmm. How about splitting this up into three - Hoddle Grid, discussing the historical layout of the city, Melbourne central business district, discussing the current CBD, and List of major streets in Melbourne as the central list which could encompass Brunswick St, Sydney Rd, etc. Ambivalenthysteria 07:47, 23 Jun 2004 (UTC)
Does the suburb box on this version of the page have the correct information? I edited it to what I thought was correct, but I might be getting muddled up. Somebody in the WWW 04:17, 15 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- Haha what an idiot I am, I previewed my modifications and didn't save it, then closed the page. Somebody in the WWW

- A word on CAD/CBD. The abreviation CAD is primarily used as an abreviation of Computer Aided Drafting or Computer Aided Design, I would have thought the Melbourne City council had more brains than to try and change the term CBD to CAD. That is laughable, sheer stupidity. Nick carson 01:18, 11 January 2006 (UTC)

- The council can call it CAD if they like - but the other 3.5 million of us, and a bunch of real estate agents, know it as the CBD. Bugger this CAD tag. --Commking 12:34, 14 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] List of lanes removed ?
Why ? I can't see a "List of lanes in Melbourne article" article and there are lists of streets in the article that remain. Why shouldn't some of the other listed lanes be significant ? It takes a lot of effort to research this stuff only for someone to just go and delete it without giving any reason whatsoever. --Biatch 23:31, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
