I had a Combat Wombat. I had to push it often due to mechanical failures. The transmission exploded at least twice. Apparently, this was a common problem. I certainly learned a lot about engines and machines while working on my Hodaka. Nonetheless, my Hodie was a blast, and there are many fond memories of rides. I can still smell the cement plant where I in Mississauga near where I rode on the railroad tracks. Eventually, the bike ended up as an empty frame; the dissasembled engine in a box. I sold it for $20 to the junk guy. <sigh> The bike may be gone, but the <sniff, snizzle> memories remain.

I had a different experience, but we share positive memories of our old Hodakas. In the 1970s I added lights to a Combat Wombat and rode it in several ISDT Qualifier events. The transmission was never a problem . . . but keeping the points dry in enduro conditions did require a bit of knowledge and experience. My memories were so good, I built up a "new" enduro Combat Wombat to ride in the ISDT Reunion Ride in October of 2005.

I had 3, A 100B, '71 Rat, and a '73 Wombat for trail riding. Back in the day Hodaka was it and still is in my book, all positive and fun experiences. Man I wish I could turn back the clock. I began to race MX with a 100B stripped down in 1970 or so. Later that morphed into a Super Rat plus. I won many local motocrosses locally and even worked as a mechanic for our local Hodaka shop for a short time. I rode one Pro race on a Combat Wombat in '73 I think. I took 5th in the first moto, unfortuantely I DNF'ed the second moto and soon after got married at the age of 16. Some 30 years later I discovered a Hodaka website and restored my old rusted Super Rat. Soon I was racing Vintage MX again at 45 years old. The people in Vintage MX'ing are like family. What a gas, still on a Hodaka, a 125 Super Combat, modified to the hilt. I raced until 2006 and took a break in 2007. I have both bikes ready to go. Long live Hodaka. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.136.26.204 (talk) 00:00, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
