[edit] Thumbnail sizes

I'm not sure if this is a guideline anywhere, but aren't most thumbnail sizes supposed to be unspecified in the WP code because default thumbnail sizes are user-adjustable? (excluding images outside of regular photo proportions)? I'm going to remove all the specified sizes; revert my changes, please, if I'm wrong.

Thanks. Mr. Absurd (talk) 02:08, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

That's the way it used to be, don't know if it has changed. --Krm500 (talk) 02:32, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
I'm going to revert it because there is no consensus to do it...and since it's the featured article article on the main page, most of the anonymous IPs coming in here aren't going to have preferences set to override it...I mean, it makes a drastic, drastic difference... --SmashvilleBONK! 02:48, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, I was going to do the same thing because the images are all out of whack on my browser when the thumbnail size is unspecified. While I can understand intellectually the thinking behind the unspecified sizes, they are problematic on a lot of browsers, which makes articles unattractive. I wonder if some rethinking of the basic premise is appropriate, as the majority of our readers come here without knowing how to resize images and so on. Risker (talk) 02:51, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
I'm a little confused… I understand the reason for the reverting, but AFAIK, the default unspecified thumbnail size is 180px wide—how would that be a problem for any browsers? If anything, it makes the images easier to fit, not harder.
At any rate, I've changed my mind and actually like it better the way it was before (and is now). I'd forgotten that the default thumbnail size was so small; I just noticed that they were fairly small compared to the 250px I'm used to seeing. Really, if you think about it, there should be a setting for minimum size too, so users like me with larger thumbnail preferences would see them bigger. Mr. Absurd (talk) 03:54, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Number of views the article had while on the main page

Yesterday the Hockey Hall of Fame garnered approx. 23,000 views while on the main page. [1] This is on the average side, some TFAs have three times that amount of views. Pre-dreadnought_battleship had 73,000 views while ESRB re-rating of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, the TFA two days before, had 82,000 views and the day after was viewed by by 21,000 people. However others this month like Joseph Priestly has less than 20,000. -- Scorpion0422 17:44, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
