Note: Though it states in the Guide to writing better articles that generally fictional articles should be written in present tense, all Tolkien legendarium-related articles that cover in-universe material must be written in past tense. [edit] Not really

The September 22 date is Tolkien's translation of the Shire date for the purpose of his stories. It's fine to celebrate on that day. However there is no reason for it to have any exact relationship with the real date. Steve Dufour 04:04, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

September 23rd for Frodo's departure from Bag End and March 25th for the fall of Sauron work out quite close to the autumnal and vernal equinoxes. Given the archetypal themes in LOTR, it seems pretty perfect that the Quest takes place as the year wanes and ends with the return of spring. Ninquerinquar 20:05, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Shire Calendar

Actually, they were born in 1290 and 1368 of the Shire Calendar. Shire reckoning begins in the year 1600 of the Third Age. Ninquerinquar 20:05, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
