A hobby horse (or hobbyhorse) can be several things:
- "hobby"; a type of horse ridden in the Middle Ages by hobelars
- A toy horse, consisting of a model of a horse's head, usually wooden, attached to a stick. This is often used by children to simulate riding a horse, see hobby horse.
- A toy horse suspended by springs from a frame
- Someone's favorite topic, to which he constantly reverts.
- The figure of a horse fastened around the waist in the Morris dance.
- Euphemistically, in Shakespearean times, a prostitute or promiscuous woman
- The 'hobby horse' was one of the earliest two wheeled vehicles made by Johnson in England [1818]. It was uncomfortable and contained no pedals or brakes. These were introduced earlier in continental Europe under the name Draisienne.
- The dandy horse, another form of early bicycle.
