Ho Chi Minh City University of Education (Vietnamese language: Dai hoc Su pham Thanh pho Ho Chi Minh) is a university specializing in tertiary-level training of teachers and lecturers located in District 5. The university was established on 27 October 1976 after the Fall of Saigon by Vietnamese prime minister's Decision 426/TTg. The predecessor of this university was Saigon National Pedagogical University founded in 1957 by the government of Republic of Vietnam. In 1995, this university was incorporated in Ho Chi Minh City National University but it was split to become an autonomous university with the name as it is today in 1999. This university is presently one of 14 Vietnam's leading universities and also one of two largest pedagogical universities in Vietnam, plays the leading roles in teacher and lecturer training. From the establishment date to 27 October 2006, this university has educated 65,945 graduates, of which 1000 are postgraduate. The university also offers training for 33,800 teachers and has education cooperations with over 50 universities worldwide.
