[edit] Good work!

Hello, Hmwith!

Welcome to Wikipedia. I enjoy your work on the Gesu article. I have done much work on the SFS article. Would you be willing to join WikiProject Catholicism here on Wikipedia? Doing so would put you in a community of like minded editors who enjoy editing the same material. Also, you might be interested in joiningWikiProject Schools, too. If any of these seem a good fit for you, just add your name on their respective page in the members/participants section. I hope you have a great stay on wikipedia, and keep up the good edits. Thanks, wpktsfs 22:56, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

P.S. I am a member of both of those projects. If you have any questions, just drop me a line on my talk page!

  • I noticed you joined the projects, welcome.
  • If you have any questions, just go here and drop me a message!

[edit] Image:Church.JPG

Basically, on Wikipedia, things are done by WP:Consensus. This means problems are discussed. WP:PUI is such a forum. Instead of removing the {{puidisputed}} from the images, you must post on the forum and explain why the images should not be deleted. Find the right entry and put a * (an asterisk) on a line by itself, then a comment, then sign your name with 4 tildes (~~~~). Thanks. Nardman1 00:34, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the information about the photos. I am new to doing edits on Wikipedia, and I need all of the help that I can get. Thanks again. - hmwithtalk

[edit] manual of style

This is going to be something you want to look at also, WP:MOS. --wpktsfs 00:29, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for sending me the MOS link and the rest of the information. I hatd no idea, and I needed that. Much of it had information that I did not know. I will try to fix my articles to fit these guidlines. Thanks again. - hmwithtalk

[edit] Adoption

Hello, Hmwith! I see that you have expressed an interest in being adopted by an experienced editor. I accept your request, being an experienced editor myself. Whether you want to learn about wiki markup, find something to do, or just talk to somebody, I'm the one you can talk to - just leave a message on my talk page. Good luck with Wikipedia!

(Personal note: please drop me a note if you accept this offer)wpktsfs 19:15, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

Yes, please adopt me! Thank you. hmwithtalk 01:16, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] I am on wikibreak.

Hey! I am going to try to take a mini wikibreak. (a wikibreak is this great thing where one steps away from wikipedia for a moment.) I am taking this because A) I need to step back for a moment, B)I am going to be out of town, and C) SFS Musical. I should be back full swing on Saturday, April 14. I will check up throughout the week following Easter, leading up to the 14. The weekend of Easter, I will not be around, whereas I will have no internet connection. (at least not yet.) If you have any questions while I am gone, just drop me a line on my talk page, and I will be sure to get back to you as soon as I can.--wpktsfs 04:16, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] VftW

Right, they assumed. They have no proof this is actually why it happened; it's speculation on their part. Even if that is why it happened, it still isn't an overly important incident in the grand scheme of things. DDoS happen all the time to numerous websites.--Isotope23 13:19, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

The site went down well before the show even started. Again, without proof the reasons why they got hit with a DDoS are strictly speculation and like I said above, DDoS is not so rare that we need to document ever time any given website gets hit with an attack. It is just not that unique of an event.--Isotope23 17:03, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

Oh, okay. You know a lot more about it than I do. Thank you for clarifying it for a newbie like myself. hmwithtalk 17:04, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] an update

Keep up the good work. I like the infobox on names, something you might want to do is see how many names you can put that box on. I like your articles that you have created, however, I would not be suprised if one or more of them is deleted. This is because some of them might not be notable to Wikipedia. I does not mean that the article does not matter, it just means that this is not the time to have the article on the site. If this happens, the best thing to do is wait a while, and then add more content to the article, and re-introduce the article to Wikipedia. To prevent the article from being deleted, try to add as much factual information you can find on the subject. Some good things to read would be: wp:a and WP:N. I will try to check as often as I can, but today is going to be my last big day on wikipedia until I return from wikibreak. Good luck!! --wpktsfs 18:38, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

If they're not notable enough for Wikipedia, they can be deleted if people think that they should be. Some might be interesting JUST to Toledo people, but obviously no one else. Thanks for the advice!
As for Being There Magazine, I found that in Wikipedia's most wanted articles. I couldn't find anymore info on it... but I tried to create one that hopefully other people who know more about that magazine can add onto. - hmwithtalk 21:27, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Toledo pages

You're welcome. I've done the same on the school article (an am now being told off for it!). - Fayenatic london (talk)

[edit] Hayley ≠ Heroine

I suspect that your About.com link could be mistaken. All other sources I've discovered point rather convincingly to it being derived from the Old English word hēġlēah and mention nothing of heroines.

  • híeg [] n (-es/-) hay, cut grass [héawan]
  • léah [] m (léas/léas) piece of ground, lea, meadow [1]

Just letting you know. –Gunslinger47 01:26, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

Thank you very much about your information about Hayley. I changed all of the Hayley pages accordingly. Thanks again. - hmwithtalk 16:17, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Name pages

It appears you are making Julie more than just a disambiguation page. I don't think this is a good idea. They shouldn't be mixed. If most people entering "Julie" are interested in the word as a name, then Julie should be a about the name. But if people entering "Julie" are more likely to be looking for something named Julie, the page should follow WP:MOSDAB and create something like Julie (name) for the other stuff.

As it current is, its starting to be both and I don't think that will work. We need to decide which one it is and go with that. What do you think? (you can answer here - I'll be watching here). (John User:Jwy talk) 22:20, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

Seems more like a job for Wiktionary:Julie. –Gunslinger47 22:35, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

I only put information into the box that was already on the page. - hmwithtalk 14:50, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] A friendly reminder

Hello. Please don't forget to provide an edit summary. Thanks, and happy editing.
- Gilliam 09:52, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
Oh, no. Where did I forget it? I always one unless I'm doing a minor edit or just fixing a typo or something. Oops! - hmwithtalk 09:53, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

Very good- I just wanted to remind you since I see you're new and off to a strong start. - Gilliam 09:57, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

Yes, I'm new. Thanks for the reminder. I do forget sometimes. - hmwithtalk 09:59, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your response and happy wikiing! Gilliam 10:05, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Funny

Haha thats cool. I'm a frosh breastroker, so I don't know if we have met or not, but that's funny. I have been watching whats been going on with your edits, and you are doing fantastic. A few observations...

  • You have put infoboxes on at least 90 pages. That is awsome. What's even cooler is that you made the infoboxes.
  • You have made 23 articles. I have made 2.
  • NEVER sacrifice QUALITY for QUANTITY... unless you are a swim team, in which case, quantity outweighs quality, which gives you fourty-two titles... just a little secret...
  • You keep very strong tabs on how many edits you have made. That's good... but it has become a very pickity hobby. You have put almost every page you have edited on your userpage, which has gone from this to this. You have started off with four articles edited, to hundreds, and pretty soon, as you get into thousands and even ten-thousands, it does not make sense to keep updating this every time you change a page. I would pick about five pages, about 10-15 at most, that you would like to display on your userpage. As for userbox updates, I would base that off of mainspace edits, as well as wikipedia (policy/official) pages. [2] will help you figure that out. Remember that out of those many edits you have, some of them have only been edits that you have used to figure out how to work wikipedia.
  • Which leads me to the fact that you have an extremely high userpage edit count. That's fine; however, if you ever choose to become an admin, the people who elect admins will look at your number of userpage edits compared to your number of mainspace edits, and many will think that you spend more time fooling around with your userspace than you do editing mainspace.
  • Wikipedia is not a dictionary, but wiktionary is. If you want to do more in depth definations of names, I would create an account there and edit away...
  • I am sure that you have a camera. I do, and I take it whenever I go out of my daily routine, and I take (I think) great pictures. Some of those pictures I have uploaded to wikipedia. Seeing that you are a student at OSU, you must drive throughout Ohio regularly, back and forth throughout Northwest and Central Ohio. Take some pictures along your way and add them to articles, or, find article that need pictures, and go out and take them!

--wpktsfs 22:08, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

I'm not sure exactly where I add barnstars. I think I'm supposed to just put it on your main page, which I did. I didn't want to mess up your perfect formatting, so feel free to move it. But thanks for everything you're doing for me, even while on your WikiBreak! - hmwithtalk 16:49, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

Thank you. I am honored and humbled. You have given me my first barnstar, and I created a special page for it. Keep up the good work! --wpktsfs 04:58, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Facebook

I did not randomly delete it; I simply thought that since there are no applicable sources (You must login to view this page), I deleted it as per Wikipedia's verification policy. I'm sorry for any inconvenience, and have restored the edit, removed the sources, and places a citation needed tag. Nol888(Talk)(Review me please) 21:32, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for restoring it, and removing the sources is okay. I forgot that you need to be logged in to see those things, and I was not aware with those guidelines. Sorry for flipping out on you (I was just upset for a minute there that), and I apologize for being somewhat of a Newbie. I will try to become more educated on those things, but thanks for helping me. We'll have to wait until a source besides Facebook comments on the new changes, I suppose, which should be in a few days. - hmwithtalk 21:46, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] categories

I've reverted your cats for duck, columbidae and finch. Only a tiny handful of species out of hundreds in these families are kept as pets, and similar family level cats have been removed in the past. jimfbleak 15:12, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

Completely understandable. I thank you for letting me know on my talk page. - hmwithtalk 17:30, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Good Question

It took me about a week to figure that out... it's how many characters you've added or removed in your last edit. This edit will show a green + because I'm adding content. If I removed it would be red -... and if I replaced with the exact same number of characters it would show a gray "0".--Isotope23 19:38, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

beat me to it... --wpktsfs 22:11, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] ashley.

Heh, sorry. Since it isn't a requirement, i didn't feel like i had to. [3] I already listed my reason on the AFD discussion page, but if you wish me to do on the talk page as well, fine. dposse 22:08, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

I apologize for being rude. It just make it a lot easier for editors of the articles. - hmwithtalk 22:09, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

It's ok, i understand. dposse 22:12, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Deletion of Caitlin Bree (Clerks) page

I made a mistake when I made the page. I wanted to make a personal page for Caitlin, but everytime i typed "Caitlin Bree" in the searchbar it would always redirect me to the minor characters in the view askewverse page. I then made the "Caitlin Bree (Clerks)" page. However, it was then i found the Caitlin Bree redirect page, and just made the Caitlin Bree article out of that. Can you delete the "Caitlin Bree (clerks)" page? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Flowerkiller1692 (talkcontribs) 03:39, 13 April 2007 (UTC).

[edit] Image:Newfacebooklogo3.jpg

An image or media file that you uploaded or altered, Image:Newfacebooklogo3.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please look there to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. Plop 13:40, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Swimming

Great News! WikiProject Swimming is now up and running. Your name has been added to the members list, since you noted your interest on the discussion page! If you have any questions, please contact me on my talk page, or the project talk page. For starters, my first goal is to get {{WikiProject Swimming}} on as many swimming related talk pages as possible. Please help get this new project off to a great start! Regards, wpktsfs 22:58, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] COSI Toledo

Nice work on the COSI Toledo article! --Kralizec! (talk) 02:22, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

please look at this Talk:COSI_Toledo. W:NPOV --wpktsfs 02:56, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for letting me know. That was just a start for the article, since one didn't exist yet at all, and I was hoping people could help me with it and I would continue to edit it. - hmwithtalk 12:01, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

Hello. It appears that the award you just added [4] is a duplicate of the Institute of Museum and Library Services award you already added [5] to the article on April 10th. I went ahead and removed the duplicate from the article, but just wanted to give you a heads-up on it. --Kralizec! (talk) 13:43, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Citation templates available

If you are not already familiar with them, Wikipedia has several citation templates that are tailored for use with specific types of sources (websites, newspapers, magazines, etc.). They are purely optional and are neither encouraged nor discouraged by the citation guidelines, however I find them extremely useful (and thought perhaps you would too) when citing the same source multiple times in the same article. (Not to mention they look nice, or at least a lot more like real encyclopedia and academic citations.) For a good example of them in use, see Shenaz Treasurywala, which was recently picked as a DYK on the main page. --Kralizec! (talk) 14:31, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for the advice. I've been noticing those on some pages, and I've been meaning to try them out. I wasn't sure whether or not I was supposed to be using them, so thanks for clarifying that. I'll see if I like using them, since it sounds like there's no reason to not... unless I'm short on time. - ::Yes, I'm new. Thanks for the reminder. I do forget sometimes. - hmwithtalk 09:59, 9 April 2007 (UTC) 16:56, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
Since you're a pro on these, I was wondering if you could help me out with citations. How do you make them say "abcde" in the refs instead of saying the source name 5 times? Thanks in advance! - hmwithtalk 21:26, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

In reply to your question [6] on my talk page, the answer is Wikipedia:Footnotes#Citing_a_footnote_more_than_once. Good luck! --Kralizec! (talk) 21:48, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

Thanks so much! - hmwithtalk 08:57, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Pivot Animator

I uploaded am image yesterday, for that article. Can you reply telling me what was wrong with my image, please? Fr4zer 11:26, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

No problem! A picture was already being used. There was no need for another screenshot of the program. - hmwithtalk 21:13, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

Ok, it was just that my image was bigger and clearer... but, yeah, leave your image on there. Fr4zer 11:41, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

No, they have the same amount of clarity, as they're both screen-shots, but yours had unneeded elements and blank screen space, while the other image was just the basic elements. It's not the size of the image, but the quality, and the other image showed a better depiction of the program as a smaller image on the page. Sorry for any hurt feelings. - hmwithtalk 14:56, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Moving articles

While your intentions were good, your recent cut [7] of content from COSI and paste into COSI Columbus is not how we generally rename or move articles. As WP:MOVE notes, "The "move page" function keeps the entire edit history of the page, before and after the move, in one place, as if the page were always named that way. So, you should never just move a page by cutting all the text out of one page, and pasting it into a new one; old revisions, notes, and attributions are much harder to keep track of if you do that." Since fixing this is beyond the ability of normal users, I have requested [8] assistance from an administrator. --Kralizec! (talk) 04:14, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

I've moved a couple of articles... OOPS! I didn't know any better. Thanks so much for informing me. That's what I took from the moving articles page, but I guess I didn't read it very well. Thanks again so much for letting me know now. I definitely won't mess up something like that again. - hmwith talk 16:22, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Edit sum

Don't forget to use edit summaries, even if it is a minor edit! --wpktsfs 02:23, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the reminder. Quite often, I'll click submit, then realize that I forgot one, but it's too late. I need to get into a habit of it. - hmwithtalk 12:00, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

Here is how you remember to do it:

  1. Go to my preferences
  2. Click on the Editing tab
  3. Check the last box which reads: Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary
  4. Hit save
  5. reset your browser's cache

I use this and my usage of edit summaries is up. Edit summaries are one of the first things other editors look for before they make you an admin. I honestly think that you will become an admin someday, so it would behoove you to use this option. Hope everything else is going great! --wpktsfs 18:50, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

I had no idea that existed. Amazing. Thanks! - hmwithtalk 18:54, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

No problem. Thats what I'm here for. --wpktsfs 18:56, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Ohio State Image

My feeling is that it doesn't belong on the university's main page where the images should be campus buildings, maps and university logos/seals. It's opening up a whole can of worms. Should we include students' personal pictures in the section on dorm life? Should pictures of individuals in the Ohio Stadium stands be included in the athletics article? This is just my opinion. If you want to start a section on the talk page and try and gain some concensus one way or the other, that would be fine.

Also, the article section that you mention is devoted to official university bands/musical organizations not independent bands. I would have no problem with a photo of the Ohio State Jazz Ensemble or Glee Club in that section--Sam Harmon 19:42, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

Understandable, and thank you for replying. We both have the same goal: to better the Ohio State article. I misread some of the text, so thank you for letting me know. - hmwithtalk 20:31, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Non-free images in user space

Hi. I love your user page logos. Unfortunately, under our fair use policy, non-free images cannot be used outside of articles. Please, at your soonest possible convenience, remove the three school logos from your header, as well as the two CD covers and the tOSU logo from the body of your user page. Thank you. --BigDT (416) 20:38, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

I will remove the 4 school logos and the CD cover immediately... but there's only 1 CD cover, not 2. - hmwithtalk 20:53, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

Ok ... Image:Iamboredlogo.JPG is the other image I was referring to ... I mistakenly thought it was a CD cover. But it is still a non-free logo and needs to be removed under WP:FAIR#Policy #9. Thanks. --BigDT (416) 20:55, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

Alright, I didn't know. I will remove them when I'm finished with my current edit. - hmwithtalk 20:57, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
It's taken care of. Thanks again for letting me (still somewhat of a newbie) know. - hmwithtalk 21:31, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] PNG vs JPEG

I replaced the images in the article I Am Bored because they were saved in the JPEG format. The JPEG format is lossy; it blurs the color information in images and reduces their quality. Screenshots, logos, etc. should typically be saved in the PNG format to prevent this from happening. Also, screenshots of web pages should generally be cropped so that only the web page and not the browser is visible. —Remember the dot (talk) 00:44, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

I actually just figured that out today. I wondered why mine always seemed so blurry compared to others' pictures. Thanks so much for the assistance. And as for the screen-shot, I wasn't aware. I will make sure to crop the pictures in the future. Thanks again! - hmwithtalk 00:47, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Ohio State History

I made a few changes to the new article. I wrote almost all of the existing history section, and I feel that this breaks things up along the lines of what I was shooting for based upon Kinnison's scholarship on the issue. My suggestion would be to add stub sections along the following lines to bring the history to the present.

  • Post War Boom 1946-1961
dealing with Ohio State's rapid expansion both in size as well as quality and recognition in the late forties and fifties
  • Controversial Growth 1962-1982
Essentially the Rhodes era, where despite growing in size, Rhodes' populist philosophy and leveling policies for higher education in Ohio led to the two decade dumbing down of Ohio State and subsequent loss of prestige and reputation
  • Return To Rutherford Hayes' Vision 1983-Present
Essentially a repudiation of Rhodes' policies and a reaffirmation of the historical norm of Ohio State being the qualitative flagship of Ohio's public university system

Let me know your thoughts. --Sam Harmon 00:52, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

I assumed that you did, since you seem to be the main editor in all things Ohio State. I didn't mean to do that, and I am glad you organized it into better sections. It does flow much better now. I was hoping that someone would help out with it. - hmwithtalk 00:54, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Ashlerferlcrying.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Ashlerferlcrying.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Ajm81 21:48, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

I wasn't aware that you had to do that for a screen-shot of a TV show showing a person who the section/article is about. I thought that it was obvious, but I guess I was wrong. I put that information on the image. Thanks for letting me know. - hmwithtalk 21:54, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Your signature

I really like your signature, it fits well with your userpage. However, I need you to look at this. Particularly:

  • signatures that take up more than two or three lines in the edit window clutter the page and make it harder to distinguish posts from signatures

--wpktsfs 23:06, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

I think that it's okay for 2 reasons:
  • With the date, it takes up about 2.5 lines (only 2.25 without the date)
  • I stole the exact same template from an admin (just changed username/colors)
If an admin uses it, it should be okay, right? - hmwithtalk 23:12, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

With that said, you should be able to continue to use it, but if anyone mentions it, I would change it. --wpktsfs 23:15, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, if an admin mentioned it or something, I would change it immediately. - hmwithtalk 23:18, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Please consider using preview to "test" your changes

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Regarding your edit(s) to Maumee River, it is recommended that you use the preview button before you save; this helps you find any errors you have made, and prevents clogging up recent changes and the page history. Thank you. --Kralizec! (talk) 11:32, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the reminder. In retrospect, I should definitely should have done that. - hmwithtalk 11:55, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] MVCDS

Maumee Vally isn't a Catholic School, you might want to change that on the Toledo page. --wpktsfs 20:57, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I know. It doesn't say it is? I just says it's private. But I didn't add Maumee Valley? - hmwithtalk 21:10, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

My mistake, I thought it did, I was looking quickly and read it wrong. My fault... --wpktsfs 23:00, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

Haha, it's fine. You know me, I need reminders. I went back and double-checked at first, assuming that you were correct. That paragraph has a lot of confusing wording. Thanks for the heads up though! - hmwithtalk 23:02, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for your interest in VandalProof, Hmwith! You have now been added to the list of authorized users, so if you haven't already, simply download and install VandalProof from our main page. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me or any other moderator, or you can post a message on the discussion page. Ale_Jrbtalk 21:29, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

I'm so excited! I've been anxiously waiting for a response. Thank you for approving me! I'll download it immediately. - hmwithtalk 21:30, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
If you added your name with a lowercase first letter, that often causes a problem - I've fixed this, so try again. Also, ensure you are running the latest version (1.36). Ale_Jrbtalk 21:37, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
Glad it's working for you. :D Ale_Jrbtalk 21:38, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Vandalproof

Hi... How did you fix the problem you were having getting VP to work? I get the verification app to launch, but the main app does not. It just kind of hangs. --Rrburke(talk) 22:02, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

I just waited. It took a few minutes, but, when I tried again, it worked. Wait 5 minutes? - hmwithtalk 22:09, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
Is your VandalProof working yet? (out of curiosity) - hmwithtalk 19:49, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

Sadly, it is not -- thanks for asking. When I can find a minute, I'll submit a bug report. --Rrburke(talk) 19:53, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] I voted!

Howdy, Actually I think I only fixed a broken template on Justin's page. I DO like using templates, however, especially ones like the AI template. I voted to Keep. Hope that helps. Schmiteye 01:57, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Rock music Wikiproject banners

Hey. I'm glad to see you've included Guster as part of the Wikiproject Rock music. One thing I would ask: please give a rating to any articles you add {{WPRock disco}} or {{WPRock}} to. It's a major pain in the ass to go through all of Guster's discography and add just ratings, cause it's tedious monkeywork and I'm the only one up for going through unassesed articles it seems. Cheers, sghoot back questions and/or queries if you have any. -- Reaper X 22:12, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: sanjaya

Thanks. I assumed it to be relevant, since they usually get their own day, a hometown celebration, and this was an unusual case. Elle Bee 19:39, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Image of Sanjaya Malakar

You asked why a screenshot isn't acceptable -- since this is a screenshot of a copyrighted TV program, it is still copyrighted by the owner, in this case, Fox (News Corporation). Wikipedia has a very clear policy on not allowing claims of fair use on copyrighted photographs of living people. There are several options in securing an alternative under a free license. For instance, you could contact Mr. Malakar, his publicist, or the company and request that they release a photograph under a Creative Commons license (cc-by or cc-by-sa are acceptable, others are not). If either of these parties gets back to you with permission, you could forward an e-mail to permissions-en AT wikimedia.org. --Dave451(talk) 06:20, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know. For some reason, I was under the impression that screen-shots were okay. Now that I know, I will not upload another one or argue it's deletion. Thanks for educating me on the subject! - hmwithtalk 16:30, 29 April 2007 (UTC)
No problem, thanks for your reply. I was under the same impression you were, until I uploaded a screenshot myself and had one of the editors send me the information I have sent to you. So I'm just passing along the information that I was given. Perhaps if this happens enough, they will clarify or change the policy, but for now this seems to be the decision that was made by the editors. --Dave451(talk) 18:25, 29 April 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for your note, sorry to say I'm not a celebrity at all, I just meant I had gone through the same process you did, uploading a screenshot of someone and having one of the editors come along and delete it, citing the Wikipedia fair use policy (for more info, see WP:FU). --Dave451(talk) 06:08, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Feline aggression

You're right, I don't want to have an edit war over this either. Yes, this behavior exists, as you say, and I will find another, web-based reference. Maybe I overreacted to what I felt was yet again another depiction of cats as asocial or antisocial animals, when the truth is they are in fact quite social as animals (I'm a cat breeder, so I have some first-hand experience with cat behavior - they can be hostile, can be friendly, but it's anything but asocial, generally). However, FAA should be mentioned; I would just like it to be placed in its correct context that this is not the majority of case (it's not unusual, but not very frequent either).--Ramdrake 19:40, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Yes, I feel that I got defensive, too. Now, I see that you're not just one of those people who will undo every edit that has anything negative about something. I know that it's not most of cats, but it is some. I apologize, though, for seeming angry, bitter, etc. in my responses. - hmwithtalk 19:47, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

I've carefully edited the sentence, hoping you can agree to this compromise in wording.--Ramdrake 20:39, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

The wording is significantly better than the way that I worded it. Thanks for being so friendly and open to compromise. - hmwithtalk 21:07, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
Well, you incited me to explain by just saying "I don't know what's your problem with my edit", so I figured the best thing to do was indeed to explain to you what my problem was, truly and honestly. I try to be a reasonable guy whenever I can, so I'm just glad we could come to an agreement this quickly. Many discussions are a lot more painful. :) Happy editing and see you around!--Ramdrake 00:39, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Minor edit flag usage

Hi there! I noticed that you've been going through and doing a bunch of small changes to many articles. There is nothing wrong with that. Indeed, it's encouraged -- a lot of good editing comes from small, incremental improvement. Keep it up! However, I also noticed that you've been flagging most everything a "Minor edit", and I think you may be using that a bit excessively. The rule of thumb is that only an edit that consists solely of spelling corrections, formatting and minor rearranging of text should be flagged as minor. Anything that adds, deletes, or changes content should not be flagged as such. See Wikipedia:Minor edit for the full story. I'm not trying to yell at you or anything, just give you some tips. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me on my talk page. Thanks for listening, and happy editing! —DragonHawk (talk|hist) 22:37, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

I clicked the "make all edits minor" to do a few tasks, and I forgot to un-check it. Thanks for reminding me! - hmwithtalk 22:59, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
No worries. Cheers! —DragonHawk (talk|hist) 23:23, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
