[edit] Dates?

this site http://www.pdavis.nl/ShowShip.php?id=69 identifies an HMS Emerald of 1856 or so.GraemeLeggett 15:46, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

Ought to add that the dates fit in with the name being in constant use, as one ship is removed another takes the name.GraemeLeggett 15:48, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] What about 1861

I discovered an ancestor of mine on the HMS Emerald on the 1861 English census (RG9 4493) when it was docked in Hamoaze, Devonport, verified by the log here [1]. Yet, this article indicates a gap between the 4th and 5th Emerald, 1847 to 1876. Is anyone able to explain this or have I discovered a missing ship? MortimerCat 17:15, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Missing ship?

In answer to both of the above, Colledge lists a wood screw frigate launched in 1856 and sold in 1869. Not a missing ship as such, but one that has unaccountably failed to appear in the list page thus far. I'll add it now. Benea (talk) 05:37, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
