HMS Wildfire is a Royal Naval Reserve unit located in Northwood, North West London. Training over 100 reservists on Wednesday evenings, HMS Wildfire is located near the UK's National Defence Headquarters, JSU Northwood.

[edit] Brief history

Formed on 6 May 1957 HMS Wildfire was originally named HMS Northwood and was designed to support the growing NATO Eastern Atlantic Command at Northwood. It was the first Headquarters Unit in the RNR and was commissioned in 1959 as HMS Northwood being renamed HMS Wildfire in 2000.

Housed initially within the UK's Defence Headquarters, HMS Warrior, now JSU Northwood, HMS Northwood occupied a series of huts until in 1988 the unit moved to Brackenhill House, an Edwardian mansion situated about 250 yards from the main gate of JSU Northwood.

The present HMS Wildfire is the ninth naval unit to carry the name for the Royal Navy over the last 200 years. Wildfire One to Four were ships and Five onwards, shore establishments. Five, Six and Seven were RN establishments based in Sheerness, Kent. Eight, an RNR establishment in Chatham.
