HMS Vixen

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

HMS Vixen was a V-Class destroyer launched in 1864 by the Royal Navy and later acquired by the Royal Canadian Navy as HMCS Sioux (R64). The Vixen was the first Royal naval vessel with twin propellors. The ironclad turned out to be not as useful as it was meant to be, unoffically having a top speed of four, yes four knots. By 1895, the vessel was in Bermuda being used as a floating dormitory for workers. In 1896, with engines and internal workings removed, she was towed into a narrow cut and intentionally sunk to ensure torpedo boat attacks were no longer a threat.
