HM submarine Swordfish was built for the Royal Navy in the hope of achieving a speed of 20 knots by using the steam turbine rejected from a previous attempt HMS Nautilus. She was built from 1913 to 1916 but she was never commissioned which is why she was never given the HMS prefix.
HM submarine Swordfish was converted to a surface patrol vessel named S1 in June-August 1917.
