HMS Romney

Five ships of the Royal Navy have been named HMS Romney. The origins of the name are from the town of New Romney, although it maybe that the name entered the Royal Navy in honour of Henry Sydney, 1st Earl of Romney.

  1. HMS Romney was a fourth rate ship built in 1694 and wrecked in 1707.
  2. HMS Romney was a fourth rate ship built in 1708, sank in 1721, refloated in the same year and sold in 1757.
  3. HMS Romney was a fourth rate ship built in 1762 and wrecked in 1804 after service in the American Revolutionary, French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars.
  4. HMS Romney was a fourth rate ship built in 1815 and sold in 1845.
  5. HMS Romney was a minesweeper built in 1940 and broken up in 1950 after service in World War II.
