HMS Iron Duke
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Three ships of the British Royal Navy have been named HMS Iron Duke after the Duke of Wellington, nicknamed the "Iron Duke". The name is also a pun, as the first ship so named was an ironclad.
- The first HMS Iron Duke was a battleship launched in 1870 and sold 1906
- The second HMS Iron Duke was the name-ship of a class of battleships, launched in 1912, on harbour service from 1932 and sold 1946.
- The third HMS Iron Duke is a Type 23 frigate launched in 1991.
