HMS Gannet

There have been nine vessels of the Royal Navy named HMS Gannet, after the seabird:
- Gannet, a wooden sloop commissioned in 1800 and sold in 1814
- Gannet, a cruiser launched in 1814 and paid off in 1838
- Gannet, a sloop launched in 1857 and broken up in 1887
- Gannet, a sloop launched in 1878 and preserved in dry dock at Chatham
- The sloop HMS Wildfire was renamed HMS Gannet in 1916, and then HMS Pembroke the following year
- The gunboat HMS Pembroke was renamed HMS Gannet in 1917, and broken up in 1923
- Gannet, a river gunboat commissioned in 1928 and transferred to the Chinese Navy in 1942
- The stone frigate RNAS Eglington in Northern Ireland was given the name HMS Gannet in 1943
- The present HMS Gannet is a Fleet Air Arm station established in 1971 at Prestwick Airport in Ayrshire, which flew ASW and SAR Sea King Helicopters of 819 Naval Air Squadron until downsizing to just the SAR role in late 2000. The unit is now called the HMS Gannet SAR Flight.
