[edit] Construction and Launch

Defender's construction began at the BAE Systems Naval Ships yard at Scotstoun on the River Clyde in July 2006. The planned launch date is not yet in the public domain.

[edit] Design

The Daring class will be one of the most advanced air-defence warship classes in the world.[5] The ship's capabilities centre on the SAMPSON Multi Function Radar which can detect targets out to a distance of 400 km and the PAAMS missile system.

[edit] Affiliations

No affiliations have yet been announced for Defender. She is likely (in common with her sister ships) to be affiliated to two UK cities or districts, as well as a range of chartitable, sporting, educational and military organisations linked to her name or local to her affiliated cities.
