HMS Babet
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
HMS Babet was a 22-gun Sloop-of-war of the Royal Navy, most notable as the first command of Sir Edward Codrington. As the French La Babet, under Lieut. Belhomme, she was taken on 23 April 1794 off the Ile de Bas by HMS Flora, HMS Melampus and HMS Arethusa. She took part in the Battle of Groix in 1795 under Sir Edward Codrington. Babet vanished without trace in the West Indies during 1801 and it was assumed that she had foundered.
