AWM Caption: BRISBANE, QLD. C.1886. STARBOARD BROADSIDE VIEW OF THE QUEENSLAND GUNBOAT GAYUNDAH. THE WHITE ENSIGN INDICATES THAT THE PHOTOGRAPH WAS TAKEN DURING OR AFTER 1886, WHEN, AFTER THE QUEENSLAND GOVERNMENT HAD OFFFERED HER SERVICES TO THE ADMIRALTY, PERMISSION WAS GIVEN TO WEAR IT. THE FIGHTING TOP FITTED TO HER FOREMAST WAS LATER REMOVED AND THE MAST HEIGHTENED. THE FORWARD 8 INCH GUN MAY BE CLEARLY SEEN PROJECTING FROM ITS CASEMATE AND THE 6 INCH GUN IS PROMINENT ON THE STERN. (NAVAL HISTORICAL COLLECTION, DONATED BY G. L. MACANDIE)
