AWM Caption: SYDNEY, NSW. 1944-02-18. PORT BOW VIEW OF THE FRIGATE HMAS BARCOO (K375) SHOWING HER ORIGINAL APPEARANCE. SHE IS PAINTED DARK GREY, PROBABLY G10, ALL OVER. SHE IS FITTED WITH A TYPE 271 SURFACE SEARCH RADAR ABOVE THE BRIDGE FLANKED BY THE SEARCHLIGHTS. AN AMERICAN SC-1 AIR SEARCH RADAR IS SITUATED ATOP THE FOREMAST AND TRAINED ON THE PORT BEAM. HER 4 INCH MK XVI GUNS ARE ON SINGLE MK XX MOUNTINGS FORE AND AFT. THIS MOUNTING WAS UNIQUE TO AUSTRALIAN WARSHIPS. HER CLOSE RANGE ARMAMENT CONSISTS OF EIGHT 20 MM OERLIKON GUNS MOUNTED PORT AND STARBOARD IN SINGLE MOUNTINGS IN THE BRIDGE WINGS, JUST BEFORE THE BREAK OF THE FORECASTLE DECK, PARTLY OBSCURED BY THE BOAT, AND ON THE QUARTERDECK JUST AFTER THE GUN DECK.
