Toowoomba was laid down by Tenix Defence Systems at Williamstown, Victoria on 26 July 2002, launched on 16 May 2003 by Ms Judy Blight, and commissioned on 8 October 2005.

HMAS Toowoomba hit a navigation marker off Gladstone in March 2006 and was repaired at Williamstown, Victoria.
Toowoomba began her first deployment to the Persian Gulf on 4 January 2007.[1]
