The second ship to be named after the town of Tarakan in Borneo, HMAS Tarakan (L 129) is a Balikpapan class heavy landing craft laid down by Walkers Limited at Maryborough in Queensland in December 1971, launched on 16 March 1972 and commissioned into the Royal Australian Navy on 15 June 1973.
