[edit] Construction

Parramatta was laid down by Tenix Defence Systems at Williamstown, Victoria on 5 June 1999. The vessel was launched by Mrs Green, daughter of the executive officer of the second Parramatta, Lieutenant George Langford, on 17 June 2000, and commissioned on 4 October 2003.

[edit] Operational history

In 2005, HMAS Parramatta was sent for 6 months service in the Persian Gulf as part of Operation Catalyst, returning her 187 crew to Sydney on the 13th of April, 2006. During this duty period, her crew carried out 186 vessel boardings and security patrols. She was also involved in training other vessels in the Iraq Coalition.[1] Parramatta was awarded the Meritorious Unit Citation in 2007 for her efforts and conduct during this deployment.[2]
