HMAS Otama (S-72) was an Oberon-class submarine laid down by Scotts Shipbuilding and Engineering Company at Greenock in Scotland on 25 May 1973, launched on 3 December 1975 and commissioned on 27 April 1978. HMAS Otama paid off on 15 December 2000, with the intention that it would be preserved as a museum at Hastings in Victoria. Currently, it is moored in Crib Point (http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=-38.363,145.202&spn=0.015,0.025&t=k).
Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Australia also ordered five other Oberon-class submarines: Oxley, Otway, Ovens, Onslow and Orion.
