The second ship to be named after the Norman River in Queensland, HMAS Norman (M 84) is the third Huon class minehunter to serve in the Royal Australian Navy. Norman was built by Australian Defence Industries in Newcastle, New South Wales, launched 3 May 1999, and commissioned 26 August 2000. Norman is based at HMAS Waterhen in Sydney with the majority of the RAN's mine warfare assets.
