HMAS Launceston

Three ships of the Royal Australian Navy have been named for the city of Launceston, Tasmania, Australia. A fourth was to be named, but this was rescinded.
- The S class destroyer HMS Tasmania was transferred from the Royal Navy to the Royal Australian Navy in July 1919. She was to be renamed HMAS Launceston, but was instead commissioned under her original name.
- The first HMAS Launceston (J179/B246/A120) was a Bathurst class corvette commissioned in 1942, served with the RAN until 1946, when she was transferred to the Turkish Navy and renamed.
- The second HMAS Launceston [1] (FCPB 207) was a Fremantle class patrol boat laid down by the North Queensland Engineers and Agents at Cairns in Queensland on 29 March 1980, launched on 23 January 1981 and commissioned on 6 March 1982. Launceston was decommissioned in Darwin on 8 September 2006.[2]
- The third HMAS Launceston (ACPB 94) is an Armidale class patrol boat which was commissioned on 22 September 2007 and is currently in service with the RAN.
