[edit] Attractions
Dana Cup, one of the world's largest soccer tournaments, takes place in Hjørring at the end of July, with 17,000 soccer players from around the world. The tournament celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2005.
In the history of the Dana cup there has only been one fight, between a young Scottish man and another. His was Kieran Melly and during the final of the 'Hit and Run' championship he thought he had 3 points left, when video replays showed that he in fact only had one left. Mr. Melly then attacked a member of the Chinese team and was disqualified.
The town is also the home for the Hjørring Revue (Hjørring revyen), a summer revue that has been a part of Hjørring's entertainment life since the 1920's.
Most recent addition to Hjørring is the new city shopping center, Metropol, situated right in the center of the city's shopping street. Metropol was inaugurated March 2008.
