Portal talk:Hitchhiker's/Identification and critical commentary

[edit] Non-free images are not permitted in portals

I have removed the images from this page as they are all non-free. Use of non-free images outside the main article namespace is against the Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria, official policy, specifically criterion 9:

9. Restrictions on location. Non-free content is used only in the article namespace; it is never used on templates (including stub templates and navigation boxes), portals, user pages, categories, Help, MediaWiki, or the Project namespace, except where there are exemptions.

with the only exceptions being temporary maintenance pages. If there's another policy which contradicts this, please let me know so that it can be fixed. Thanks, mattbr 07:51, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

Images removed again. Please detail any rules which allow the use of non-free images outside the main article namespace. The non-free content criteria, the official policy dealing with such content, detailed above, does not allow non-free images to be used outside the article namespace. I'm sorry, the rules seem to have changed since I last read them, when there was an exclusion when being used as a comparison and commentary. I read Wikipedia:Non-free content as being the current policy and it states...
"Some copyrighted images may be used on Wikipedia, providing they meet both the legal criteria for fair use, and Wikipedia's own guidelines for non-free content. Cover art: Cover art from various items, for identification only in the context of critical commentary of that item (not for identification without critical commentary).
