Hitchin Cricket Club
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hitchin Cricket Club is a cricket club based in Hitchin in Hertfordshire.
They currently play their matches in Lucas Lane in the West Hitchin area of the town, a ground that they share with the Blueharts Hockey Club. They play in the Hertfordshire Cricket League, their best position being in 1976 when they came second. The club is also the venue for Minor Counties games. In 1988, a second pitch was constructed.
[edit] Visit of New Zealand
Perhaps the biggest claim to fame for the club was in 1994, when the New Zealand Cricket team started their England tour with a match against Hitchin. The Lucas Lane group was also the scene of Hertfordshire County Cricket Club's victory over Essex in the 1976 Gilette Cup - the first time a minor county had defeated a first class county in a major competition.
