Talk:History of yoga

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Shouldn't there be some mention or admission that this is limited to written history? Isn't it possible that yoga "existed" (i.e. was taught and practiced) in the period before the advent of writing? Smithfarm 11:48, 18 Mar 2005 (UTC)

This page neglects the first major yoga text, which is the Bhagavad Gita. --68.173.46.79 18:53, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Error

There seem to be several misinterpretations about Indians practicing Yoga. It is actually a very small percentage of the populace who perform Yoga, most of them being either dedicated priests or ascetics or people rich enough to have the time and inclination to seek 'alternative' and 'spiritual' treatments for their medical problems. Indians don't randomly sit on temple stairs or on the roadside and meditate. If that happened, they'd probably get shooed away by a priest or hit by a bus, respectively. Please, do not view Indians to be these poor, underfed, spiritual Hindu ascetics that the west seems to see us all as.

Thanking you,
