[edit] Traditions

  • curious as to why no one has mentioned the history, tradition, and customs of the NYR fans ?? Nyrmetros <>
    • There was a separate article on the fans traditions. I have now merged that article into this one. MRoberts <> 15:36, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
      • Here is the discussion from the traditions page Talk:New York Rangers traditions. MRoberts <> 15:51, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
        • I had no problem merging the 2 articles, as long as both stayed intact, which it did. Now we need to work on referencing the entire article, as it seems only the Rangers traditions has been referenced. Nyrmetros 22:06, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
  • What is the concensus here on having Dancing Larry as part of the traditions section?

I would put in Dancing Larry but would also add Dancing Granny who frequently gets a spot during games.

A section on cult favorite fans? Dancing Larry, Dancing Granny, Bobby Granger, and of course Cheif. Nyrmetros 20:15, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Here is some video and text proof about the Rangers stick salute to the fans. Maybe someone here can add it to the references. The article also takes about how the Rangers fans serenaded the team with the famous "Let's go Rangers" chant after being eliminated in the 2005/2006 playoffs at MSG. [edit] Andy Bathgate

  • Why have the Rangers not retired Andy Bathgate's #9 ? He was the original Rangers superstar. Nyrmetros <>
I rather expect that the likes of Frank Boucher, Bill Cook, Ching Johnson and Chuck Rayner would dispute the "original" tag. That being said, good question. RGTraynor 05:08, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
    • I agree that the players you mentioned deserved proper recognition as well. The Rangers should honor all of these great players. Nyrmetros 14:21, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
At this point, the Rangers are quite unique in declining to retire the numbers of their past stars, and the only ones they have retired in recent years are recent stars (Giacomin, Richter, Messier) for whom they could drum up attendance and excitement. I'll bet a hundred dollars against a penny they retire Leetch's number and never bother with Bathgate's, while Boucher, Rayner, Johnson, Bill Gadsby, Gump Worsley and the Cook brothers are long forgotten. RGTraynor 16:16, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
      • Sadly you may be right. #2 deserves to be retired for both Leetch and Park. But the players you mentioned were the ones that created the Rangers legacy and history and tradition. Without them, the blueshirt with the diagnol Rangers loses most of its meaning. Nyrmetros 18:21, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Let's go rangers

The idea that Rangers fans invented the "Let's go (team name)" chant at best needs a citation to a reliable source, and at worst is highly dubious. I'm going to remove the text that suggests this until and unless a reliable source is cited. Croctotheface 16:00, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
