Talk:History of the British penny (1837-1901)
It would appear I have one of the 1797 pennies, passed to me from my father, the date is worn off, so I guess it won't be a valuable one, but it's cool to even have something so old. It has Brittannia facing left, it has G (L?) ...I I I D (G or C) and a king portrait facing R, the profile is distinctive in that the profile is almost a straight line from forehead to nose-tip
I would guess that its George III. --THobern 16:40, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Passion Penny
I have been collecting British coins for several years and have a rather large collection. I do not collect to sale. I follow a lot stories about the history of the conage and often wonder if the stories are true. Presently I have a question about the copper or bronze penny that was called the passion penny. I do not know the story in total and would very much like any information on the penny. Anyone knowing the story and would take the time to respond please add to this discussion or send me the info at Ardvark1@Carolina.rr.com. Thanks for the board and I hope to hear soon.
