Talk:History of personal learning environments
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Re merging suggestion - I considered adding the original material to the History of Virtual Learning Environments page at the time I created the History of Personal Learning Environments. Factors which influenced me not to do this were as follows:
- A Personal learning environment is a different beast to a virtual learning environment. Asserting that they are the same is, say, a bit like saying a blog is a wiki.
- A political/economic/ motive, thinking that before long we would have a Blackboard moving into the personal learning environment area, and I wanted to forestall the inevitable corporates claim to patent a PLE by having it clearly laid out that there was prior art in the area. Sure the political argument is not sufficient on its own to prevent merrging, but dont forget, it was a similar motivation that resulted in the establishment of the Hist of VLE page, to provide evidence against the Blackboard Patent.
I move that 1 is a strong enough argument to maintain the pages as separate Mark vH
