[edit] Para moved from article
I've moved the first para graph under origins to here for discussion. Doesn't seem focused enough. RJFJR (talk) 16:49, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
On December 29, 1845, Texas became a state. Fort Gates was established soon afterwards to protect the local settlers from Indian attacks. Attacks abated when the Army set up patrols to prevent Indians from crossing the Red River in 1875. About this time, law officials also began to make the area safer for settlers. Settlers continued to stake out claims and the area developed as farming communities until World War II.
[edit] license?
Do we need this on the article? I can't find any CV. Is this required? RJFJR (talk) 16:52, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Merger Proposal
Moving this article into the History of Fort Hood section of the Fort Hood article would be in keeping with other articles about Active US Military installations. --dashiellx (talk) 17:21, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
