Albania: ancient land, north of Caucausia, at the west side of Caspian Sea, starting from Aras and Kura rivers extending north, approximately corresponding to the northeast of current Soviet Azerbaijan and south of present Dagestan. Its people, who were warrior Scythians, fought with Mithridates VI, the king of Pontus, against Pompeius. See also: Arran.
