Respected Sir, Dato' Hishammuddin Hussein
UPSR Stress on Mind
All of us were shocked to see on TV screen, then followed by the news in papers that the UPSR papers had leaked out a day earlier before the exams. Although there is a very tight security implemented in the preparation of the papers, printing, transporting until the school examination halls, but still the papers were considered leaked out. There could be a loop hole in the last step of transportation.
Anyway, our Education Ministers have been alerted and a thorough investigation orders have been given. Well it may be known very soon after the results come out as many may score excellent marks of "Grade A". This shall be a proof of leak-out.
In yesterdays paper (06.09.07) our National Parent-Teacher Association Collabrative Council President Associate Prof Dr Mohd Ali Hassan has very easily said if the leaking out allegations are proved to be true then the students may have to re-sit the examination.
Come on! Is this a joke or a serious comment?? Do the authorities take into consideration that how much time does a UPSR student gets occupied with his studies in preparation for the exams?? For how many days a child remains in stress until his exams?? How much time the parents spare for their UPSR children?? How much fortune some parents spend on tution?? How many office leaves the parents have to take to attend the motivational talks and also on Examination Days??
To re-sit for the UPSR Examination means a repeat of the whole procedure as questioned above. Yes! There may be a leak out of the papers which may have helped a minority of the students to do well in the exams, but the intelligent students who have been scouring excellent marks all the year round and a majority of them knew nothing about the leak out tips shall be punished unnecessarily. We are talking about Five Lakhs Students.
Other countries also face the same problems but they do not re-sit the examns. But in our case a solution should be found which gives justice to all and the culprits get punished.
My suggestion is instead of re-sitting in exams the Education Authorities should check on the marks of Trial UPSR exams, the questions of which were also from State Education Department, and compare it with the final exams. If there is a lot of difference then total up the marks of Trial and Final of each subject and take out the average and calculate the marks to give Grade "A" or "B" etc.
This should be fair enough. The intelligent students need not worry because if their trial exams carries "A" Grade then the final shall be also the same. Hence, please do not stress the parents and UPSR students. Let them prepare for a new Secondary Course.
Thats all, Thanking You Yours sincerely, UPSR Galore
