History of the Joke is a History Channel two hour special which was first aired on February 18, 2008 from 8:00pm-10:00pm.
This special was hosted by Lewis Black and starred Kathy Griffin, Dave Attell, and Penn & Teller. In the show Lewis Black considers all of the different components of the perfect joke and all types of comedy, including physical comedy and slapstick. The history of comedy from ancient Greek street performers, the masked performers of mid-1500s Italy to possibly the first female comedians from Shakespearean actresses in Restoration era England were all covered.[1]
