Historical tale (歴史物語 rekishi monogatari) is a category of Japanese literature.

Notable historical tales are:

• A Tale of Flowering Fortunes (Eiga monogatari)
• The Great Mirror (Okagami)
• Today's Mirror (Imakagami)
• The Water Mirror (Mizukagami)
• The Clear Mirror (Masukagami)
• Rokudai Shojiki written in the Kamakura period.
