Historic Oakwood Cemetery

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Historic Oakwood Cemetery was founded in 1869 in Raleigh, North Carolina near the North Carolina State Capitol. Historic Oakwood Cemetery contains a special area within its 102 acres (0.41 kmĀ²), the Confederate Cemetery, located on the original two and one-half acres given for that purpose by Henry Mordecai in 1867. Famous college basketball coach and cancer victim Jim Valvano is buried in Oakwood, as is Wade Edwards, the son of former presidential candidate John Edwards.
