Talk:Hirsuties papillaris genitalis

Need link to fordyce's spots, I thought I had PPP but in fact have these suckers. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.164.65.21 (talk) 07:20, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
To answer the below, I think it might be somewhat related, it's always a possibility. I have them, however I'm a fairly feminine male, and was a slightly late bloomer. But mine aren't as prominate as the ones in the photograph. In fact, I've been able to keep mine completely unnoticed by sexual partners for up to several months. Seven at most. But thank god for wikipedia because I honestly thought I was spreading an STD and was too afraid to tell anyone.

Anyway, can anyone else answer the below any better?

- Jesus christ you'd fuck someone thinking that you had an STD without telling them? Way to be disrespectful, I hope some chick gives you herpes. See how you appreciate that. 144.131.46.192 04:47, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
I would like to know if hirsuties papillaris genitalis have a link with the amount of testosterone present in the body. I know that there are a lots of little bumpy spines for male cats that haven't been neutered (see image: [1]), they are a sign that testosterone is flowing in their body. And then when you neuter a male cat, the spine all over his penis disappear because of the lack of testosterone.(see image:[2]) So I am asking: for some males, because not all males have ppp, are hirsuties papillaris genitalis indicators of the amount of testosterone present in a person's body ? - A long search revealed that penile spines also occur in many primates, and have a sensory function (as well as a function for the female of effectively shortening her period of receptivity, making it less likely that other males will have offspring with them). Also, in females, the equivalent (vestibular papillae of the vulva) tend to only appear after they become sexually active.Fleetingshadow (talk) 07:55, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
- One more thing - the spines disappear in primates when they are castrated as well. They're not necessarily testosterone indicators, more that they're a secondary sexual characteristic.24.16.241.219 (talk) 23:36, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
Surely Hirsuties papillaris genitalis is not just a male disorder? As far as I can tell, there is both Hirsuties papillaris penis in men, and Hirsuties papillaris vulvae in women. Also, http://www.blackwell-synergy.com/doi/abs/10.1111/j.1468-3083.2004.01161.x (subscription required, but Google shows a text fragment), seems to suggest that Hirsuties papillaris genitalis and pearly penile papules may not be the same thing.
Can someone with expertise in this area please comment? -- Anon, 09:00, 2 October 2005 (UTC)

- A lengthy Google search revealed a textbook which refers to "Vestibular papillae of the vulva", which is one of a number of names for this condition in females. The naming convention varies. I added a link tho. Fleetingshadow (talk) 07:55, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
The picture is immoral. --conservative
oh, do be quiet. Saccerzd 18:41, 18 April 2006 (UTC)
Immoral? It's a photograph that is clearly without any pornographic purpose, but rather the purpose is to inform. Jesus Christ, how can someone be that repressed!?

[edit] not immoral
The pic is not immoral. Infact, its a very good picture to reassure nervous men that their condition is actually completely benign. Make sure it stays up because of my penis
I never leave home without my PPP's!
Can i say thank god for the photo. I've had them scince birth, and scince no one ever told me any different, i thought they were normal (which seems really dumb now i know). My girlfriend has Condylomate Acuiminata, she showed me, i got scared and got checked out. The doctor told me i had what she had but, gave me the description of HPG. After checking this site and seeing the photo, we finally cleared up what i have - AG 21/05/08 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.111.250.90 (talk) 15:33, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] home remedy
I added a home remedy that I am testing out. So far it has made them less visible. Toothpaste is a lot cheaper than a carbon laser. Also some one should upload a picture of ppp on the shaft of penis and scrotum because it can also appear there.
- You're testing it? Sorry, Wikipedia has a policy of No Original Research. LWizard @ 05:06, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
- This isnt something i just thought up myself. The flouride in toothpaste drys out the afflicted areas. I think it is relevant information and it should remain posted. If you want to put some kind of warning infront of it that would be fine.

- Dear Rosemary, toothpaste was made for delicate tissue. I can't think of any harm this would do. Smearing toothpaste on one's glans keeps it fresh, and is actually quite enjoyable.

- There are lots of things you can put in your mouth that are not safe for your penis. In the case of toothpaste, through the magic of Google I found:

What's the worst thing a woman has ever done to your manhood in the midst of pleasing you?
Richard: One day, my then-girlfriend decided that it would taste great if she put toothpaste on my penis. Needless to say, it wasn't a pleasant experience, considering it felt like my penis had been covered with molten lava.[3]

- Maybe it depends on the kind of toothpaste, or maybe some men are just more sensitive? In any case, until there is verifiable info that this home remedy is safe and effective, it doesn't belong in Wikipedia. Rosemary Amey 19:17, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
- Just use toothpaste made for sensitive teeth then! Drumnbach 20:50, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
- This whole toothpaste thing is a horrible idea. Most doctors will tell you they're normal, some will even tell you that they increase pleasure during sex (think ribbed condom). If you're truly concerned by the look of them, go to a dermatologist, who can excise them using a carbon dioxide laser. The end of the papillae are connected to nerve endings in the corona; it's not a good idea to damage them, and certainly not a good idea to do it yourself, especially when they're benign, normal, and may have sensory function.Fleetingshadow (talk) 07:58, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Papules are related to xerosis, eczema, and psoriasis in combination with prolonged intercourse or masturbation
There should be some studies investigating eczema/psoriasis link to pearly penile papules. I've recently been on a drug, isotretinoin, which reduces oil production. I've noticed that while having sex or masturbating there is an increase in sensitivity and irritation around my corona (uncircumsized). This has resulted in some very small preliminary papules. It's been established that the papules are not viral. I think its certain they are a result of frictional irritation caused by the foreskin rubbing over an erect penis during masurbation or intercourse; with increased risk associated with prolonged activity and xerosis.

[edit] WP is not censored
I'm not offended or anything, but I don't think it's necessary to have three separate extreme versions of this disease staring you in the face when you open the page. I removed the pictures and posted a link at the bottom of the screen for people who want to see what the disease looks like.
Who keeps putting the pictures back up? I added the links at the bottom of the page so viewers can CHOOSE if they want to see some examples. PLEASE DISCUSS BEFORE ADDING THE PICTURES. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.10.173.234 (talk) 23:00, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
