Hirvitalo is a community centre in the Pispala district of Tampere, It houses the Pispalan Contemporary Center where the Pispalan Cultural Association meets.

In Hirvitalo are 3 gallery rooms; 2 litte ones and one big exhibition chamber, recording studio, shop, office, residence room, kitchen and a basement sauna.

[edit] Foundation

The house was constructed in the 1930s. Who was here since then is not fully documented. At some stage the building moved under the ownership of the Tampere City Council. Before the Pispalan Cultural Association moved into the house, it hosted various bohemian artistic events.

The main activities happen in the summer, although throughout the winter there are weekend events. This has included an Alternative Valentines Day, local arts school exhibitions, poetry and Kantele playing.

Hirvitalo hosts artists in residence. The Pispalan Cultural Association also participates in activities away from the actual builing, such as eco-art installations, forest walks and other cultural happenings.

There are some nearby grounds of the house in which the Pispalan Summer Fest happens and permaculture courses as well as outside events.

The house also helps with social inclusion agenda hosting meetings and employing artists and others in integration and training programs.
