Coordinates: 14°28′N 75°23′E / 14.47, 75.38 Hirekerur is a panchayat town in Haveri district in the Indian state of Karnataka. The name means "Hire" = Big, "Keri"= pond/lake ,Ur ="village",pronounced as Hee ray kay roor.

Hirekerur is located at 14.47° N 75.38° E.[1] It has an average elevation of 619 metres (2030 feet).

As of 2001 India census,[2] Hirekerur had a population of 15,874. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Hirekerur has an average literacy rate of 71%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 76%, and female literacy is 66%. In Hirekerur, 13% of the population is under 6 years of age.

It is also home to a famous Durga Devi temple located just near the village lake.

Hirekerur, a whack village turned city, has four new theaters surrounding the city. Taluq is where all the business occurs.
