Hir Vijay Suri

Hir Vijay Suri (Shri Hirvijay Suri) was a prominent saint of the Jain sect during the times of Akbar (around 1600 A.D).
There are lot of records of his teachings in Jainism and its profound impact on Akbar the great.
King Akbar had given up non vegetarian food when he saw the depth of non-violence practiced by Jain sect.
Akbar declared "Amari" or non-killing of animals in the holy days of Jains like Paryushan and Mahavir Jayanti. Akbar also rolled back Zazia Tax from Jain Pilgrim places like Palitana at request of Hir Vijay Suri.
