Hinter Gittern - Der Frauenknast is a German television drama series set in a women's prison in Germany. The series was first aired on RTL in 1997, and saw the final ever episode in February 2007.

The show was based on Australian television drama series Prisoner which ran from 1979 - 1986 and with a total of 692 episodes, this is the second show to come to light from Prisoner with the first being Dangerous Women which ran from 1991 - 1992 with a total of 52 episodes and the third being Bad Girls which ran from 1999 - 2006 for a total of 107 episodes, the prison dramas were originally based from Within These Walls which ran from 1972 - 1976 and 96 episodes.

Sadly RTL decided to axe the long running drama after 16 seasons and 403 episodes. The last nine episodes were transmitted during the night at 01.05 AM.
