Hinjawadi (Marathi: हिंजवडी) is a small village on the NH4 bypass around the City of Pune.
This used to be a sleepy, agricultural place until the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park was opened in its backyard. The tech park has grown so much in two phases that now the village is in the tech park's backyard. The third phase of the infotech park is under construction, with further phases planned.
The place name is often misspelled as "Hinjewadi" and mis-pronounced as हिंजेवाडी.
The technology park at Hinjawadi houses many Indian software companies. Some of them are: KPIT Cummins, Infosys, Wipro, Geometric, Tech Mahindra (planned in phase 3), Cognizant Technologies, Persistent Systems (under construction) and AztecSoft. It also houses some small product companies such as Compulink and Starent Networks.
Phase 1 and 2 of the park are complete. Phase 3 is under construction. There are plans for phase 4, and the MIDC has earmarked an area for biotech firms. A few, like Emcure and Eclerx, are already present in phase 2.
