Hilton Primary School

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hilton Primary School is a larger than average primary school located in Blakelaw, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. The school mainly caters for children from the surrounding areas of Blakelaw, Slatyford, West Denton, and Cowgate. Currently the school has over 450 children on role, ranging from nursery through to year 6 (age 4-11). The nursery currently caters for 52 children.

[edit] The School Site

Hilton Primary occupies a large site which borders the Blakelaw estate. Stamfordham Road runs to the south of the school, with the A1 just to the west. The school is located around two miles from Newcastle city centre. The school was formerly two separate schools, but in 2003 an extension between the two buildings was constructed. From above the school is in the shape of an angel, with the two wings housing the infant and junior sections of the school, and the main body housing the school office, main hall, and year 6 centre.
The school has two large playgrounds, one for the infant side of the school, and one for the junior. As the school was formerly two separate establishments the current Hilton Primary is lucky to have two halls, and two dining rooms. The school also benefits from a large playing field to the south-east of the main building.

[edit] ICT initiatives

The school has been keen to promote I.C.T. through the curriculum for many years, and was one of the first schools in the UK to benefit from an internet network. The school now has a wireless network that is available within the perimeter fence of the school. The school was one of the first in the UK to purchase PDA/EDA devices to support learning in upper Key Stage 2 (years 5 and 6) and these are now being integrated into the everyday curriculum at the school. The school also benefits from three ICT suites, and a set of laptops that are used by year 6 children.
